TOWN HALL PROGRESS OCTOBER 2007
The refurbishment work on Thurso Town Hall commenced at the beginning of September by local company O`Brien Construction Ltd.
Work is scheduled for completion in September 2008 when the facility will re-open as Caithness Horizons.
Progress to-date is going exceptionally well. Some of the key areas of work have already been completed such as site set-up, internal strip-out, stripping of existing roof coverings, reduced level excavation, all underpinning work and excavation of pad foundations.
The lift shaft is nearly finished and internal floor joist repairs and minor roof repairs are almost complete, with stonework picking and temporary steel works well underway.
Caithness Horizons Chairman Paul Cariss, welcomed the progress being made and said: "After a long period of preparation I`m pleased that the major building work has now started and that a local business has acquired the work.
"The project promises to deliver an outstanding facility which will benefit both the local community and visitors to the area. Caithness has a fascinating history and story to tell and Caithness Horizons will help to promote the many attractions that as yet are relatively undiscovered."
